DIY 3D Display first prototype

Almost like a table of living clay, the inFORM is a surface that three-dimensionally changes shape, allowing users to not only interact with digital content in meatspace, but even hold hands with a person hundreds of miles away. And that's only the beginning. Created by Daniel Leithinger and Sean Follmer and overseen by Professor Hiroshi Ishii, the technology behind the inFORM isn't that hard to understand. It's basically a fancy Pinscreen, one of those executive desk toys that allows you to create a rough 3-D model of an object by pressing it into a bed of flattened pins. With inFORM, each of those "pins" is connected to a motor controlled by a nearby laptop, which can not only move the pins to render digital content physically, but can also register real-life objects interacting with its surface thanks to the sensors of a hacked Microsoft Kinect. ElectroLuminescent Technology Overview
This video is about Different Use of ElectroLuminescent Technology Electroluminescent (EL) is the electrical stimulation of a phosphorous material to excite the phosphor so that it will generate light. The process behind electroluminescent is radiative recombination, also known as spontaneous emission. In radiative recombination, phosphorescent substances emit photons (light particles) in response to a small electrical current. Electroluminescent produces light when phosphor crystals are excited by being exposed to electric current. EL lamp can be twisted, flexed, coiled, and folded. If it is pierced, it will continue to illuminate. The pierced area should be resealed however to prevent moisture from entering the lamp and damaging it in that area.

In this video tutorial, we show you how to make your own light up poster using EL Panels, and vinyl. Vinyl is a great resource when working with Electroluminescent materials like EL Tape and Panels, because it does a great job blocking the light where you don't want it to be seen. In this particular video, we show how the whole panel lights up except for the logo, however you can use the other part of the material to light up the negative. LED Tape vs. EL Wire Demo
I pulled some scraps, unused materials, and demo gear from the shop and made a little intro video explaining what the stuff was. I'd been talking on some Cosplay forums about LED tape for a while, and why I think it's awesome and cool, and I thought it might be nice to have some visuals to go along with the text. Also, I haven't seen too many people really demonstrate the brightness difference between EL wire and LED, and I think this demonstrates it pretty well. There's a bunch of stuff I forgot to mention, and things which would be good to show, but.. this is just to get started.

Youtube's 5.1 Audio Explained (read description).
Hello Everyone! You are here because you are confused about Youtube and the 5.1 audio support. I will explain it as easily as I can. You will be disappointed at the results... (please click read more) Here's our little test... Say you created a video with 5.1 sound effects for each channel: -1 front right (meow) -2 front left (bark) -3 center (laugh) -4 rear right (quack) -5 rear left (tweet) -6 woofer/LFE (buzz) --------------------------------------------- Before 5.1 was supported --------------------------------------------- If you attempted to upload these sound effects, you would only hear 1(meow) and 2(bark) after the video was published to Youtube. This means you have lost 3(laugh), 4(quack), 5(tweet), 6(buzz). Youtube didn't recognize the 5.1 format and left them out of the final published video. --------------------------------------------- Now that 5.1 is supported --------------------------------------------- If you upload a video with these sound effects today, Youtube will take those extra channels 3(laugh), 4(quack), 5(tweet) and downmix them into 2.0 speaker output. This means the final video, after being published, will now contain these sound effects that would have been lost previously. --------------------------------------------- The disappointment... --------------------------------------------- 5.1 audio support on Youtube does NOT mean you will not hear 3(laugh) on your center speaker or 4(quack) and 5(tweet) on your rear speakers "independently". You will NEVER hear 6(buzz) because LFE is not supported on youtube. It really should say "Youtube supports 5.0 audio", not "5.1". Yes it is a misnomer: 5.1 support on youtube does not mean you will hear sounds on each speaker independently. 5.1 support only means that youtube "reads" the audio from extra channels (as it hasn't before) and turns them into 2.0 output so you can now hear all the sounds in stereo. If you want to hear sound on all speakers, go into your sound card settings (realtek for example) and click "speaker fill". This is not surround sound, it just sends the same audio channel (mono) to all 5 speakers, thus you will hear the exact same sounds coming from front left/right, center, rear right/left. You still will not hear LFE. Note: If you wish to download the video sample, go here: http://ift.tt/2bq6tTR If you play the file from the link in Media Player, you WILL hear sounds coming from each speaker independently as well as the LFE. Notices at 0:10, in Media Player, you will hear LFE, but you won't hear it in the Youtube upload.

Not impossible - Inventing the holographic projector: Will Tamblyn and Gavin Smith at TEDxAdelaide
Will Tamblyn and Gavin Smith are obsessed by all things technical. They like taking things to pieces and putting them back together in different ways. They are self-taught in many areas of design, manufacture, programming and visualisation -- and over the past four years they have been trying to turn their crazy scribblings and random thoughts into something real and exciting. What's now called the Voxiebox was conceived after a few beers, standing in the shed wondering what to make. The conversation went something like this: Gav -- "What do you reckon we should make?" Will -- "How about a robot with a holographic projector for a head?" Gav -- "Hmm, that sounds impossible, holographic projectors don't exist yet." Will -- "Exactly, so let's build one." Gav -- "Yeah, ok" It turns out it wasn't impossible, just really, really difficult. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
